Passport Application or Renewal
These are the steps to get or rea new a passport; complete and sign an application form. You can get the form from a Passport Canada office, a post office, or online which is the point of emphasis for this article. Complete all sections except for the “Guarantor’s Declaration” and that is so because it is strictly for the guarantor.
These are the steps involved in the application processes;
1. Ask your “guarantor” to complete and sign the “Guarantor’s Declaration” section of the application form.
A guarantor is someone who knows you and can confirm your identity. Guarantors must meet ALL the following criteria:

- Are 18 or older
- Have a valid Canadian passport or passport that expired within the year that the passport office receives your application
- Where at least 16 years old when they applied for their passport
- Know you for at least two years
- Can confirm your identity
Submit these items with your application:
- Two identical passport photos which meet the requirements described in the application form and on Passport Canada’s website (Your guarantor must sign the back of one of the photos and state that it is your true photo.)
- Proof that you’re a Canadian citizen (for example, a birth certificate or a certificate of citizenship)
- Proof of identity (for example, a driver’s license or a health insurance (medicare) card)
- a Canadian travel document (for example, a different certificate of identity or a refugee travel document) issued in your name in the last 5 years
- The passport fee mentioned in the application form
3. Send your application, along with the documents listed above and the passport fee, to a Passport Canada office. You can also bring them in person.

You simply provide these documents as listed below:
- A complete application form (The Simplified Renewal application form)
- two identical photographs in the required format
- your most recent passport photograph
- Then, the application fee.
There are however requirements that must be met to use the Simplified Renewal application form,
- You were at least 16 years old the last time you applied for a passport.
- The name on your application form is identical to the name on your previous passport to avoid unnecessary complications
- You have a previous passport that is valid for 5 or 10 years, is not damaged, was never reported lost or stolen, and is still valid or expired less than a year ago.
For any passport application or renewal, you must send the required documents by mail or bring them in-person to a Passport Canada office, however submitting directly online will save you the stress and the costs involved

Passport Canada
Passport Canada was an independent, special operating agency of the Government of Canada with bureaucratic oversight provided through Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.
Formerly known as the Passport Office before June 2006, Passport Canada was responsible for issuing, revoking, withholding, and recovering Canadian passports, and it was the sole issuer of them (except for emergency and temporary passports that may be issued by a Canadian mission abroad).
However, Passport Canada became defunct on 1 July 2013, after the amended Canadian Passport Order came into effect. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) replaced Passport Canada as the passport issuing authority on that date.
Employment and Social Development Canada, through Service Canada, is responsible for the delivery of the passport program on behalf of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. Service Canada delivers in-person passport services in passport offices and at Sereffectnada Centres in Canada.
Over the years, there have been continuous questions from individuals as to when will Passport Canada reopen. There seem to be no fixed date or time yet in response to the question. Applicants are enjoined to continuously stick with IRCC for the moment as Canada’s recognized passport issuers
