If you’ve ever had confidence issues, you must have wondered How to build self-confidence again.
About 85% of those people you see on the street suffer from low self-esteem. This explains why many people have confidence issues.
I got to know this colossal number as I was preparing this post and was very surprised. This means more than eight of every ten persons have an issue with his/her self-image, self-love, and self-confidence.
85% of people have issues with confidence
If you are among this 85%, the good news is you’re not alone. There are possibly seven other people whom you’d meet as you walk through the street.
In this post, you will see five self-confidence tips that would go a long way in your quest to build self-confidence. I will also give you two materials for free to boost your confidence. They are practical Self-Esteem activities you should take.
Let’s get the ball rolling, but not before we know what self-confidence is.
What is Self-Confidence?
Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment. When you have self-confidence, you trust yourself and are fully confident in whatever you do. There is self-assurance, and you admire your self-image. When one lacks self-confidence or has low self-esteem, his life is affected in more ways than one. His quality of life plummets (if it was ever high), and his self-image to him is worthless.
Causes of low self-esteem or poor self-confidence
Many factors can cause you to have poor self-esteem. These things sometimes might not be in our power to prevent, but the result is completely in our power to avoid. A few of the many causes of low self-confidence include but are not limited to the following:
- Unrealistic goals
- Heartbreaks in relationships
- Getting lost in the crowd
- Failure in ventures or exams
- Growing without one or both parents or growing up in a broken home.
- Bad choices made
- Negative life habits or pattern
- The list goes on and on!
How to build self-confidence in yourself
So what is the answer to how to build self-confidence in yourself?
Building your self-confidence isn’t a day’s job, but it isn’t beyond reach. It only requires your conscious effort. The following are simple self-confidence tips; then (as I said), you will get two materials for your Self-Esteem activities.
Do what you love
One way to build self-confidence is by doing what you love. This is the first step you must take. Doing what you love isn’t difficult. Just as it sounds, when you want a pedicure – get it. Want to visit the Mall? Go. If you want noodles, eat them; if you want chocolate, enjoy them.
When you start doing what you love, your self-image starts to improve. You start seeing yourself in a different light. Your love for yourself not only increases but your self-love too. You now believe in your choices and options. However, you must be careful since taking responsibility for yourself means you’re also responsible for your mistakes.
However, this is also the reason why you’re on the journey. It is all about improving your esteem which you need to improve.
You must know yourself. Self-awareness is very important in life of anybody. You must completely know who you are and what you want. Wait!!! Do you even know who you are? Go figure it out.
Also, in any situation, you should have an opinion uniquely yours. You must know your thoughts on this or that (put the topic here).
You don’t have to be opinionated anyway; having an opinion doesn’t mean you must force it on anyone. Having an opinion means you won’t be pushed around, but do not be rigid.
Surround yourself with like-minded people
You cannot talk about building self-confidence without talking about those who inspire the best part of you. When you have people whose lifestyles and choices differ, you tend to feel like a fish out of water. When you are with like-minded people, you are free and can express yourself, which greatly benefits your confidence and esteem.
However, you must be careful not to be too comfortable in your comfort zone. Try other waters too.
To get the best people, look in your church or religious places, school, sports field, or anywhere where what you love is being done.
Believe in yourself
Basically, poor self-confidence is either a result of not believing in oneself or brings about not believing in yourself. It is a cause-and-effect thing.
Handling it starts with you believing in yourself – period.
Understand that people’s opinions do not define you. Realize that you are what you are. Stop being scared of the unknown. If you have been given a speech to present, you take it head-on. Worst case scenario, you fail in the speech and can’t pronounce your name, best case scenario, you kill the speech!
Both are possible, but the former is more likely when you are dead scared before climbing on the podium; the latter would be the case when you believe your audience has all come to cheer you, and that’s just what you’d see, by mere believing in it, and holding on to your belief.
Believing in yourself has no substitute in this discussion of how to build self-confidence in yourself.
